Juhasz, Code Number: AU97048 Size of Files: Text: 21.4K Graphics: Line drawings (gif) - 12.4K The degradation of pyrene, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon containing four fused benzene rings, was evaluated using Burkholderia cepacia strain VUN 10,003. Over 70% of the ^14C-pyrene was mineralised after 120 hours. GC-MS analysis of TLC-isolated pyrene metabolites identified a pyrene dihydrodiol and pyrenol as ring oxidation products of pyrene and 4-hydroxynaphthenone and 4-phenanthroic acid as ring fission products.
