Citation: Shand, Patricia. “Norman Burgess Fund: Commissioning Music for Student String Players.” Canadian Music Educator. Vol. 51, No. 4 (Summer 2010), 10-11.
Description: Shand describes the work of the Norman Burgess Fund, which has commissioned new string works at a variety of repertoire levels since 2006. An important feature of the Burgess project is the collaboration of composers, teachers, and student performers. Shand concludes that the involvement of youth in this project can increase students’ understanding and appreciation of contemporary music by living Canadian composers.
