Description: Shand emphasizes the need for balanced performance programs in schools, and suggests that music curricula should include music of a variety of styles, periods, and countries, including suitable Canadian repertoire. She summarizes the development of the John Adaskin Project, reactivated in 1973 as a joint venture of the Canadian Music Educators' Association and the Canadian Music Centre, designed to promote the use of Canadian music in schools. She mentions a number of Canadian compositions suitable for performance by student ensembles, and describes preparation of a guidelist to assist teachers in including such material in their music programs.
