Title: Nests of the Potter Symmorphus cristatus and a bee (most likely Osmia coerulescens at this early stage of diagnosis). Some of the older Potter larvae are beginning to develop the characteristic vivid Yellow of the Symmorphus cristatus prepupa. 6.4 mm width cavities.

Abstract: This cavity width is less common for S. cristatus but the development of a vivid Yellow would clinch the diagnosis. For this Data Set 'Potter' includes the vespid wasps Ancistrocerus (nearly all A. antilope), Symmorphus (eitherS. cristatus or S. canadensis), and very rarely indeed Eudynerus. The terms vespid or eumenid are not often used here.
