Abstract: This paper presentation is a response to the world scientists' 'Warning to Humanity' from a Buddhist academic perspective combined with linguistics. The author agrees with the intent of the general statement but takes issue with the wording and language used to convey the message, arguing that the language employed should reflect a greater sensitivity to the interdependence of sentient beings. He uses the Buddhist theory of conditioned co-origination or interdependence to underscore the scientists' general argument that the things humankind must do are "inextricably linked". The author does this by applying the language of interdependence to the practical situations inferred or referred to in the scientists' statement, and by doing so, breaks down the unilinear direction of the wording to create greater space for a more profound, multidependent communicative direction.
