Issue Date: 1971

Abstract: The first two parts of this paper "present a theoretical picture of the bilingual and second language learning processes, during the course of which certain factors at work [are] discussed in some detail. The third part [is] devoted to a discussion on the place of English in the school curriculum, the purpose of the exercise being not to provide answers to this knotty question, but (hopefully) to lead the reader to some fruitful thinking on the often-talked-of but not-much-done-about topic."
